Ham Radio Operators or Amateur Radio Operators are vital in Disaster situations by providing Communication, when all other Communication systems fail and Amateur Radio is independent of terrestrial facilities. They can help connect people, coordinate relief and provide critical information to emergency management officials.
How?
They can establish networks between people agencies, even when Cell Phone Towers are down.
They can help coordinate large scale relief efforts.
Examples:
Hurricane Katrina, Gujarat Earthquake, Uttarakhand Floods, Odisha Super Cyclone, Indian Ocean Tsunami etc.
We, the Ham Radio Operators undergo regular training and participate in drill to prepare for Disasters and Experienced in improving Antenna and Power Sources.
- The Rajapalayam International Radio Communicators Club – RIRCOM established in the year 1993 has been involved in providing such second line communications during various emergencies such as Tsunami, Rain flow information during heavy Rain fall to safe guard the public in the Southern part of the Country. The Club has received numerous appreciations for its valuable. The volunteers of RIRCOM have rendered selfless support to the district administration.
- In a developing country like ours it is more than necessary to use such technologies, which is not only cost effective but also maintain a resource of skilled and talented personnel at each village level. Where people themselves can better organise for their local needs which is the main criterion during disasters and other natural calamities.
- We have well established communication Service using HF, VHF and UHF.
